CEBU CITY--Two more inmates tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), thereby doubling the the total infections at the city jail to four, Mayor Edgardo Labella said on social media Tuesday.
The first case tested positive last Sunday, but the 49-year old patient with existing tuberculosis died; the second patient tested positive on Monday.
Massive testing is currently being done at city jail, Labella added, while bringing in food and other provisions for inmates has been suspended.
Personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology is now collecting, inspecting and tagging food, medicines and other items for inmates at Fuente Osmeña Rotunda in downtown Cebu City.
"This is because the barangay is also not allowing anybody from outside the area to come in. We have to be sure," said councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of of the city's COVID-19 task force.
As of Tuesday, the city has had seven new cases, including two from city jail, two from Barangay Calamba and one each from Barangays Suba, Labangon and Hipodromo.
