MANILA—A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental on Good Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor occurred at 3:29 p.m., some 168 kilometers southeast of Saragani town.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 43 kilometers.
Instrumental intensity 1 was recorded in General Santos City, Tupi in South Cotabato, and Alabel and Kiamba in Sarangani Province.
Phivolcs added the tremor is likely to spawn aftershocks but may not cause damage.
