MANILA--The city government here on Saturday clarified that videos of the Divisoria night market purportedly operating amid the Luzon lockdown are fake, saying the footage are not current.
"For the past few days, old video footages of the Divisoria night market area have been circulating in social media," the Manila Public Information Office said in a statement.
"The city government would like to stress that the old footages do not in any way reflect the current situation of the Divisoria night market area."
Albay Rep. Joey Salceda and Foreign Affairs Sec. Teddy Locsin Jr., who shared the videos on social media earlier, have released statements saying the footage are "old and misleading."
"In line with this, the Manila City government is appealing to the public to avoid sharing false information by verifying first the content. False information can seriously aggravate public anxiety amid the crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic," the MPIO said.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said the city's anti-cybercrime division is now "searching for the source and will file the necessary case against that person." -- With a report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
