MANILA — A victim of a shooting incident in Quezon City past midnight on Thursday has been identified as self-confessed drug lord Franz Sabalones, according to police.

The body was initially identified as Jerome Cabilao a.k.a. Abdulyakin Tating Limpasan, based on several ID cards, a police report given to ABS-CBN News by National Capital Region Police Office chief Guillermo Eleazar shows.

On Thursday afternoon, a certain Joselito Cabilao personally appeared at the Quezon City Police District headquarters and identified the victim as Franz Sabalones, his cousin.

Sabalones had been shot dead just after alighting from his vehicle at the corner of Sct. Borromeo and Mother Ignacia in Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City.

Recovered at the crime scene were a fired cartridge case of unknown caliber and several belongings of Sabalones, including the ID cards and mobile phones.

Sabalones, who had been tagged as Cebu City’s most wanted, surrendered to former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa in 2016.

“While we are yet to establish the real motive in the killing, we cannot discount the possibility that he was killed because of alleged involvement in illegal drugs trade,” said Quezon City Police District chief Joselito Esquivel Jr.
