MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday called former President Fidel V. Ramos "his everything," including being his foremost critic and mentor.

"Former president, my idol, my mentor, my lahat, my critic, sali mo na lahat dyan, President Fidel V. Ramos," Duterte said in a speech in Camp Aguinaldo.

Duterte was referring to Ramos' criticisms of his administration. He previously said that the Philippines continued to “lose badly” under Duterte's leadership.

Ramos, who pushed Duterte to run for president, first made the statement after the first 100 days of the administration.

The former president has also advised the firebrand leader to "act like a president all the time."

Despite Ramos' criticisms, Duterte said in July 2017 that he respects the former president's opinions.

"You are my idol. You are my number one supporter, but at the same time you are my number one critic now. You can continue criticizing me, sir," he said.
