MANILA - The Department of Information and Communications has launched a free online training program to help Filipinos learn new or enhance existing skills while Luzon and other parts of the country remain on lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

DICT's free courses or webinars "aim to provide alternative learning opportunities for the working population whose livelihoods were disrupted," the agency said in a statement.

Among the free online courses offered are Social Media Marketing, Comprehensive Affiliate Marketing track, and Digital Governance.

"DICT developed these webinars in line with the social distancing and stay at home directives of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Inter Agency Task Force to help the working population adapt to the current situation that require remote work as well as online learning," said Assistant Secretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic.

The free online classes started on April 16, 2020, with all slots for the courses filled.

The DICT has yet to announce if it would open more slots for the program.
