88 more Filipinos abroad positive for coronavirus; total now at 837

MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday reported that 88 more Filipinos abroad were sick with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the biggest daily jump so far since March, raising the total tally of overseas infections among Filipino nationals to 837.

The highly-contagious disease has also killed 3 more overseas Filipinos, raising the death toll to 106, the agency said.

The number of those who recovered from COVID-19 is also up by 8 to 248, the DFA added.

"The DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts (FSPs), continues to rally the support and cooperation of our people in adhering to the preventive measures and restrictions imposed by different local health authorities and agencies, and remains dedicated in providing assistance to the COVID-19 positive Filipino nationals as needed," it said in a statement.

"The DFA also advises our Overseas Filipinos who wish to return to the Philippines in this time of crisis to immediately coordinate with the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate," it added.

As of Friday, some 483 of the identified cases are undergoing treatment for the disease, broken down as follows by regions: 11 in the Asia Pacific Region, 181 in Europe, 141 in the Middle East and Africa, and 50 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the novel coronavirus has so far infected 5,878 people, with 387 deaths and 487 recoveries.
