MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte said he recently axed another set of high-ranking government officials due to corruption.
Duterte made the announcement during the mass oath-taking of new presidential appointees in Malacañang Tuesday afternoon.
“I am very sad, as of last week I fired another set of high officials,” Duterte said in his speech. He did not identify them.
He added that to his chagrin, these officials included allies who sought him out in Davao to convince him to run.
“Ayoko sana na mawalan ako ng bilib sa kaibigan. I hate it, you know they meant well,” Duterte said. “Along the way, may papasok talaga ng kalokohan.”
“May lamentation is p***-*** ka, bakit ka pa pumunta sa akin?” he added.
Duterte, meanwhile, said he is set to decide on the Executive Order (EO) on contractualization soon.
In his speech, the President said he received a draft of the order shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, but added he needed to study the proposed EO first.
“We are trying our best to help our Filipino people,” he said.
