MARAWI CITY - Senatorial candidate Francis Tolentino on Friday blamed some members of the upper chamber for the delay in the passage of the 2019 national budget.
“A-dose na ngayon hindi pa rin tapos ang ating national budget. Bakit? Hinaharang ng ibang nasa Senado. Kailangan natin ng budget para dito sa kalamidad na El Niño. Last three years, kailangan ng Pangulo ng makakatulong sa Senado,” he told voters during the campaign rally of PDP-Laban in Marawi City.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) had warned that the country’s gross domestic product growth will likely slow if the Philippines continues to operate on a reenacted budget.
Tolentino is also pushing for the amendment of the Labor Code, which would allow senior citizens back into the labor force.
“Magtrabaho kung kaya pa. They have the wisdom, talent, training to contribute to our economy,” he said.
The former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief entered the Magic 12 in the latest Pulse Asia senatorial preference survey.
“Nagpapasalamat din po ako sa mga na-survey dito. Noong March, 'yung huling survey ng Pulse Asia, number 10 na po si Francis,” he said.
Actor Robin Padilla also campaigned for the administration’s bets in Marawi City, amid concerns raised by those displaced by the five-month battle between government forces and terrorists.
“Alam ko hanggang ngayon wala pa. Ang presidente ninyo Maranao. Kahit kailan hindi kayo makakalimutan ni President Duterte,” he said.
