MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday formally appointed Metro Manila police chief Director Oscar Albayalde head of the Philippine National Police.

Appointment papers released by Malacañang designated Albayalde as director general of the police force, succeeding Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.

The president last week announced that Albayalde will replace Dela Rosa, who retires this month.

Besides Albayalde, Duterte also appointed 2 more officials to government posts.

Paul Yang Cha has been named the deputy administrator of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Authority, while Captain Teotimo Borja Jr. was promoted commodore in the Philippine Coast Guard.
