Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri said Sunday he recovered from the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after testing negative for the respiratory illness twice.
"Just received the happiest news ever of my second negative result from Makati City Health Office, which is a requirement for all COVID-positive patients to be considered recovered," Zubiri said in a Facebook post.
"I would also like to thank God and our Lord for a second chance in my life by healing me from COVID-19," he added.
Zubiri was the second senator to recover from the disease, caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, which originated from China's central Wuhan city.
Last Monday, Sen. Sonny Angara announced his recovery from COVID-19.
Both Angara and Zubiri earlier said they would donate plasma from their blood to help the ongoing research for treatment of the illness.
The two lawmakers also vowed to file measures that will strengthen the country’s medical and scientific defenses against infectious diseases. The measures will include proposals to fund research on possible vaccines against COVID-19.
On Sunday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 4,648 after the health department reported 220 new cases.
