MANILA - A lawmaker slammed lawyer Lorenzo "Larry" Gadon over his outburst outside the Supreme Court summer court house in Baguio ahead of the oral debates on the ouster petition against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno last Tuesday.
Gadon, who filed the impeachment complaint against Sereno, was caught on video hurling expletives and raising his middle finger to protesters outside the high court facility.
Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate said Gadon may have resorted to expletives because he does not have any strong argument against the people there.
"I can now understand why this person usually resorts to name-calling kasi wala siyang argumento na maibigay na maayos," said Zarete, noting that this was not the first time the lawyer cussed in public.
"I-fix muna niya yung kaniyang spelling at grammar bago siya mag-aastang expert dahil siya nga mismo 'yung finile niya sa SC na amicus curiae comment, wala nga sa rules. Nag-aasta siyang eksperto pero di niya rin alam ang kanyang ginagawa," he added.
Zarate believes Gadon should be held accountable for his actions.
Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President Abdiel Fajardo was quoted in a media report that Gadon may be cited in an ethics complaint.
But Gadon said he is not cowed and even threatened to file a disbarment case against IBP officials who support the Chief Justice.
"Because their act of support can be considered as abetting the illegal acts of Sereno , they are upholding the violation of the constitution by Sereno therefore they are also liable for violating the code of ethics," he said in a statement.
Gadom has faced 2 separate disbarment cases: one in 2016 for saying he opposed the Bangsamoro Basic Law and making remarks seen as "hateful" to Muslims; and another this year for his allegedly baseless accusations against Sereno. --report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
