MANILA - A police official on Saturday urged local government units to craft ordinances requiring residents to wear face masks while outdoors to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, commander of Joint Task Force Corona Virus Shield, said this would help local police enforce the requirement in villages. Eleazar added they would need the cooperation of barangay officials to implement the policy.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases earlier announced such requirement while Luzon remains under lockdown, recently extended until April 30.
Eleazar said authorities may start apprehending people who are not wearing face masks outdoors once LGUs pass local measures.
