ZAMBOANGA CITY - Damage to agriculture in Zamboanga City due to El Niño has reached P9 million, the city agriculture office said Wednesday.
The weather phenomenon has affected hectares of land in the city, including those in Barangay Patalon.
Among farmers affected by the drought is Roberto Gantaan, who said El Niño is causing their harvest to dip.
PAG-ASA weather observer Raul Aytin said farmers should not plant water-intensive crops despite the intermittent rains.
Based on the weather forecast, El Niño is expected to weaken in May.
The country has been experiencing reduced rainfall since February with several provinces suffering from the dry spell. - Report from Leizel Lacastesantos, ABS-CBN News
