MANILA - Outgoing Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa on Friday said his main goal as the incoming Bureau of Corrections chief would be to end the drug trade in the national penitentiary.
“I-account ang mga drug lords doon. I-account kung saan sila nakalagay. Hindi na sila maka-negosyo,” Dela Rosa told ABS-CBN News.
Several raids in the New Bilibid Prison showed that drug lords continue to receive preferential treatment and conduct drug deals inside the national penitentiary.
“Bago [ito]. Excited [ako because this is] another chapter of my life,” Dela Rosa said.
The outgoing PNP chief is expected to start work at the Bureau of Corrections by mid-April.
"Bakasyon muna ako. Magpahinga muna ako. Hingi lang ako ng kaunting bakasyon, konting relax lang, [then] trabaho naman uli,” Dela Rosa said.
Last year, President Rodrigo Duterte said Dela Rosa will be appointed to the Bureau of Corrections after his mandatory retirement at the PNP, after reports that illegal drugs continued to proliferate at national penitentiary.
