MANILA (UPDATE)- The vice-mayor of a town in Rizal province died Tuesday, a few days after testing positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to his son.

Jalajala Vice-Mayor Jose "Jolet" delos Santos was diagnosed with the disease on March 25, his son Jom said in a Facebook post.

The local official went on isolation after showing symptoms of COVID-19, according to Jom.

Jolet served as mayor of Jalajala from 1994 to 2004.

He was serving his second term as vice mayor before he died.

As of Tuesday, the Philippines has recorded more than 2,000 cases of COVID-19, with 88 deaths and 49 recoveries, according to the health department.
