MANILA- The government has exempted employees of the Philippine Postal Corporation from the Luzon lockdown, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Tuesday as the quarantine reaches its halfway point.

Employees of the company who will physically report to work should observe physical distancing measures as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19, Nograles said in a virtual press briefing.

"Employees of the Philippine Postal Corporation at a capacity necessary to maintain the prompt delivery of services to its clients," Nograles said.

The government-owned corporation on Monday said it is currently using its vehicles to transport relief goods to hospitals, local government units as well as poor communities.

“Sa mga oras ng kalamidad, minamabuti ng PHLPost na manatiling maglingkod sa publiko upang tumulong din sa komunidad sa anumang makakaya nito anumang oras,” it said.

(In times of calamities, PHLPost chooses to serve the public in its capacity.)

The government earlier exempted workers in establishments that provide basic, and critical services and goods from the lockdown.
