MANILA - Four elderly men from Quezon City are among those who succumbed to complications from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the health department said Tuesday.

All of the victims had hypertension, the Department of Health (DOH) said in its latest bulletin, as research showed those with pre-existing medical conditions appeared to be at greater risk of comtracting the illness.

Among the new fatalities was a 78-year-old man who died on March 25. He was confirmed to be positive with the novel coronavirus a day after his death.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man died on March 26, a day after he was diagnosed with COVID-19. Both had unknown travel history.

The 2 other fatalities had no recent travel history that could have them exposed to the highly-infectious disease, which originated in the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan in Hubei province.

A 72-year-old man died on March 29 while a 69-year-old man died on March 30, the DOH said.

Data from the health department's tracking website also revealed that Quezon City has the most recorded cases of COVID-19, followed by San Juan City, Manila, Pasig City, and Makati City.

The National Capital Region is currently the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the Philippines.
