Metro Manila enters its third week on lockdown. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

A hospital worker in Tacurong City was attacked when strangers threw bleach at his face. The worker was being treated for eye trauma. The Sultan Kudarat hospital where the worker is employed is calling for justice. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases in the country rose to 1418 with 71 dead. The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and the Philsports Arena in Pasig are being converted to serve as makeshift medical facilities.

Flip-flopping on testing
The Chinese embassy in Manila denied a DOH statement Saturday that the test kits given to the Philippines which were inaccurate came from China. The embassy called the DOH’s remarks on the matter “irresponsible.” On Sunday, the DOH revised its statement saying the test kits meet the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). The department clarified the inaccurate test previously mentioned by came from a private donor. Health advocate Dr. Minguitta Padilla is advocating the use of rapid test kits.

Changing tunes
After facing criticism for its statements on Sen. Koko Pimentel’s breach of protocol, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has changed its tune. Justice Sec. Menardo Guevara has said the department will investigate and resolve the case in the same way it handles other cases.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Gov. Ben Diokno said the country will do everything to avoid a recession through fiscal and monetary policies. He said the GDP could be around 3 percent, dip to negative territory in the second and third quarters before recovering in the fourth quarter. Inflation, he said, could go to 2.4 percent from 2.6 percent last month as food prices are stable and with a price freeze in place.

Push back
Many in the healthcare community are crying foul over the Department of Health's offer of a PHP 500 daily allowance for volunteer COVID-19 workers. ANCX shares the strong words of one doctor, who is asking the government important questions in relation to it.
