MANILA - The mayor of Taytay, Rizal announced on Facebook on Sunday that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Taytay Mayor Joric Gacula said on his Facebook account that he had himself tested for the virus on Tuesday, March 24, after experiencing several symptoms.
Agad po ako kumonsulta sa family doctor,” Gacula explained in the video he uploaded on Facebook.
He said he got the results on Sunday saying he was positive for the novel coronavirus. Gacula said he has a “mild case” of COVID-19.
While Gacula said he has not experienced any symptoms since Friday, he will follow the directive of the Department of Health and continue to stay in quarantine.
In the video, Gacula reassured the town relief operations will continue and urged others to follow the enhanced community quarantine guidelines (i.e self-quarantine, practice social distancing, etc.), regardless if they are feeling any symptoms.
According to Gacula, they had already begun contact tracing.
Gacula is not the first government official in Rizal to test positive for COVID-19. Rizal province Governor Rebecca Ynares also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
