MANILA - The Manila City government on Sunday confirmed 5 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the city, raising the total to 55.

Of this number, 7 died while 1 recovered.

Among the areas with confirmed COVID-19 cases are Baseco, Binondo, Ermita, Malate, Paco, Pandacan, Quiapo, Sampaloc, Sta. Ana, Sta. Cruz, Sta. Mesa, Tondo 1 and Tondo 2.

The city also has 224 patients under investigation.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, Mayor Francisco Domagoso signed an executive order for the implementation of a liquor ban in the city.

The liquor ban will take effect Monday, March 30 until the end of the Enhanced Community Quarantine period.

Domagoso ordered the liquor ban as residents continue to disobey policies on social distancing and curfew hours in the city.

"Kahapon may mga lasing, may mga nagka-karaoke pa, tambay sa kalsada, nagpaparty-party pa. Ngayon, para wala na kayong dahilan para makahanap ng alak," Domagoso said, adding he will also be suspending the permits given to those selling liquor and alcoholic drinks.
