BORACAY - The local government of Malay, Aklan has ordered the closure of Crown Regency Prince Hotel in Barangay Balabag, Boracay island due to lack of sanitation permit.

Rowen Aguirre, municipal executive assistant for Boracay Affairs, said a notice of closure was issued last Monday.

No guests will be allowed in the hotel while the permit is being processed, the official said.

Hotel management has yet to issue a statement to ABS-CBN News.

Boracay is facing a 6-month shutdown to make way for rehabilitation efforts amid sewerage problems and widespread violation of environmental laws among establishments.

The government-led cleanup began after President Rodrigo Duterte called the renowned beach destination a "cesspool."

The local government of Malay town also said it would not issue permits for "LaBoracay" parties and other big events in Boracay during the Holy Week and Labor Day in support of the island's rehabilitation.

"To promote general welfare, the municipal government will not approve permits for big events during the upcoming holidays (Holy Week and Labor Day)," the statement read.
