MANILA - The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday issued summons to confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and the other respondents in an illegal drug case.
Aside from Espinosa, suspected drug lords Peter Lim, Peter Co, and several others are summoned to the hearing on April 12 as the preliminary investigation on their drug case continuous.
The subpoenas were issued by the newly created panel of prosecutors composed of Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera, Assistant State Prosecutor Anna Noreen Devanadera, and Prosecution Attorney Herbert Calvin Abugan.
This new group of prosecutors will continue the hearing for the drug case of the alleged drug personalities after the previous panel came under fire for dismissing the drug complaints against the suspects.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II earlier blamed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for the weak complained filed before the DOJ.
Following the controversy, Aguirre ordered the scrapping of the dismissal of the charges against Espinosa and Lim, leaving the case "wide open" for new evidence and testimonies.--report from Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News
