HADJI MOHAMMAND AJUL, Basilan - A terror leader and his followers surrendered to authorities here Wednesday morning, a local official said.

Abu Sayyaf Group commander Nurhassan Jamiri and 13 of his followers have surrendered to local authorities, Vice Mayor Talib Pawaki confirmed to ABS-CBN News.

He was earlier reported to have been killed by authorities in a gunfight on the east coast of Sabah.

Pawaki said Jamiri and his followers agreed to surrender to government forces in the coastal village of Seronggon, where military and Basilan local officials picked them up.

Jamiri's group also surrendered 11 firearms to the military. The terror leader is facing a string of criminal cases for kidnapping and murder in Basilan and Zamboanga City.

One of these cases was the kidnapping of Zamboangeña nurse Preciosa Feliciano who was snatched in her residence in Barangay Tetuan, Zamboanga City in 2008.
