MANILA - The Department of Education said Friday it would leave the decision to hold graduation rites and moving-up ceremonies up to schools in light of the suspension of classes and activities due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Graduation rites slated for April 3 are already cancelled, DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said as she reminded schools to consult parents on the matter.
“Puwede po nila itong i-reschedule, puwede din po na ‘di na nila ituloy pero ito po ay kailangan ikonsulta sa mga magulang,” she said in a press briefing.
(They can reschedule it. They can also cancel it but they have to consult the parents.)
Classes and school activities in all levels across Luzon are suspended until April 14 and would resume on April 15 as the public is urged to stay home to control the spread of COVID-19.
In response to the month-long class suspension, DepEd transitioned to electronic learning with an online platform called "DEpEd Commons” to help students continue their lessons amid the Luzon-wide lockdown.
