MANILA - Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado on Friday said he is under his "second round" of self-quarantine after attending several meetings with ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
While waiting for his coronavirus test results last week, Yap attended a meeting in Malacañang, and participated in the House deliberation for the "Bayanihan bill", where the lawmaker, who was then a person under investigation, ironically campaigned for people to stay at home. Avisado was present in both events.
"I am already on my third day [of isolation]... Second round ko na nga po ito (This is already my second round)," Avisado told DZMM.
"Kami lahat na nagpulong sa Malacañang at um-attend din kami sa special session ay kailangan po talaga sumunod sa protocol na mag self-quarantine," he said.
The 66-year-old budget chief first submitted himself to voluntary isolation earlier this month after several Cabinet officials attended an event where a participant eventually tested positive for COVID-19.
Health officials earlier said patient who may be exposed to COVID-19 carriers must be isolated for at least 2 weeks as the virus has an incubation period of 14 days.
As of March 26, 707 patients in the Philippines contracted the disease, which can be transmitted through the transfer of droplets from the nose or mouth of an infected person.
Of those infected, 45 were killed, 28 recovered, while the rest continue to battle the global pandemic.
