DAVAO CITY – In a series of meetings a day before President Rodrigo Duterte’s birthday, Cabinet members “sought clear guidance from him” on the upcoming peace talks with Communists.
"We wanted to really seek clear guidance from him on the next round of talks. The talks would be on April 2 to 6. It will be held in the Netherlands, so we discussed the issue of the bilateral ceasefire and the agenda items that will be discussed," Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza said.
Duterte gave specific instructions, which officials are not at liberty to share, Dureza said.
The government will also “respond accordingly” to the Communist Party of the Philippines’ (CPP) declaration of an interim ceasefire by March 31.
A bilateral ceasefire will also be put in place, but the date of its effectivity will follow after all guidelines are put in place.
On the next round of talks’ agenda will be economic development, Dureza said.
