MANILA-- Bulacan Fourth District Rep. Henry Villarica has tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), House of Representatives Secretary General Atty. Jose Luis Montales said Thursday.
According to Montales, Villarica last reported for work on March 4.
On March 8, he attended an event hosted by Baliuag Mayor Ferdie Estrella, who was earlier reported to have also tested positive for COVID-19.
Montales also said Villarica was admitted to the hospital last March 12 for pneumonia. He is now in stable condition.
Members of Villarica's staff have not exhibited any symptoms, Montales added.
Villarica is the latest public official to test positive for the disease.
Aside from Estrella, Rizal Governor Nini Ynares and Naic, Cavite Mayor Junio Dualan have also tested positive for the disease.
ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Eric Yap, and senators Miguel Zubiri, Aquilino Pimentel III and Sonny Angara, likewise, tested positive for COVID-19.
As of Thursday, the Philippines has a total of 707 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of this number, 45 have died and 28 have recovered.
