MANILA - House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez denied Sunday that cracks are forming within the administration's political party as leaders of the ruling PDP-Laban differed in senatorial lineups for the 2019 midterm polls.
Alvarez said he is okay with Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III's inclusion of majority senators in his own version of the PDP-Laban senatorial slate.
"Lahat po 'yan ay suggested names ngayon. Ang ano kasi, 'yung final ay 'yung kung sino-sino 'yung pipiliin ng ating Pangulo," he told ABS-CBN News.
Asked about cracks in the party, the PDP-Laban stalwart said: "Ay wala, wala! Definitely wala!"
Alvarez earlier revealed his choice of potential senate bets for PDP-Laban, which includes partymates and appointees of President Rodrigo Duterte.
However, the PDP-Laban stalwart did not include the names of reelectionist allies Senators JV Ejercito, Sonny Angara, Cynthia Villar, Nancy Binay and Grace Poe.
Pimentel, the party president, said Sunday he would fight for the inclusion of these senators in their 2019 lineup. But, like Alvarez, he said this has to be discussed with the President.
Alvarez also figured earlier in a feud with the President's eldest daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who dropped expletives at the speaker on social media.
Duterte-Carpio got mad after the House Speaker allegedly called her regional political party "Hugpong ng Pagbabago" part of the opposition.
Last week, Ejercito said reelectionists from the majority were in talks with the Davao Mayor's party.
