MANILA - Three convicts serving their respective sentence at the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City died early Wednesday morning after one of them ran amuck, a Justice official said.
Based on the Bureau of Corrections initial investigation, a person deprived of liberty, who was convicted for murder and attempted murder, assaulted others inside his dorm around 3 a.m., killing two fellow prisoners, Usec. Markk Perete of the Department of Justice said.
The assailant used an improvised bladed weapon to stab his victims.
Other dorm occupants attempted to subdue him but were eventually forced to defend themselves from the assailant's attempt to stab them as well, the bureau said.
The assailant was eventually killed.
Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, said Perete.
The names of those killed have yet to be made public until their families have been notified.
