MANILA—A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck off Batanes on Monday afternoon, Phivolcs said.
The tremor happened at 1:07 p.m., 46 kilometers southwest of Itbayat town. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 25 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.
The tremor was not expected to cause damage and aftershocks.
In July, 3 strong tremors with magnitudes ranging between 3.2 and 5.9 toppled the island's treasured limestone houses and left 9 dead, including 2 babies under a year old.
