MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — The Front Committee 18 of the New People's Army (NPA) has released two militiamen whom the rebel group had held as "prisoners of war."

Freed on Saturday in a remote barangay here were Rene Doller and Mark Nocus of the 72nd Infantry Battalion based in Davao Oriental.

The two were abducted by insurgents who set up a checkpoint in Don Mariano, Lupon municipality, Davao Oriental on February 14.

Board member Louie Rabat, a negotiator on the government side, went to the release site to pick up the two.

Doller and Nocus, who said they were not hurt in captivity, were released after their families sought the help of Exodus for Justice and Peace.

Rev. Jurie Jaime, of Exodus for Justice and Peace, called for peace talks between the government and CPP-NDF-NPA panels to resume.
