MANILA – A Quezon City police officer who was seen in CCTV footage attacking and illegally detaining a man following a road altercation, will be charged with criminal and administrative cases.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director, Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said the criminal cases against Chief Inspector Melvin Madrona were referred to the city prosecutor.
Eleazar said Madrona is facing charges for physical injuries, arbitrary detention, grave threat, and grave coercion.
Madrona was relieved from his post by the Philippine National Police - Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) for mauling David (not his real name), a marine engineer.
Madrona is currently assigned to the Quezon City District Headquarters in Camp Karingal while waiting for updates on his case.
He may also face dismissal from service according to Eleazar, since administrative charges will also be filed against him.
“He will face dismissal if proven guilty on the administrative charges to be filed against him,” Eleazar said.
Other cops seen in the CCTV footage while Madrona mauled David are still assigned at the QCPD Station 5 in Fairview.
Eleazar said investigation is still ongoing for all those involved, and assured the public of due process.
"Hindi namin tinotelarate ito...Kaya nga we keep on appealing to the public to report these incidents," he said
