UPI, Maguindanao- A police officer and 2 civilians were hurt in 2 separate explosions here Friday night.
The first blast took place outside an elementary school in Barangay Borongotan during a basketball game.
According to Upi police chief Senior Insp. Merle Glemao, 2 residents who were watching the game sustained wounds due to the explosion.
They were identified as Jonathan Lingatong and Allan de Guzman.
The school's concrete fence was also damaged, leaving a big whole.
Barangay Borongotan councilor Edwin De Vera, who was also watching the basketball game and was seated about 15 meters from the point of explosion, survived the blast.
Minutes later, another explosion went off just beside the national highway, hitting the patrol car of responding police officers.
An officer identified as PO1 Marjun Lahaylahay, who was driving the patrol car at the time of the blast, sustained wounds on his face and neck.
He was rushed to a community hospital but was later transferred to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Cotabato City.
Police are still investigating the 2 explosions.
Authorities have yet to find out who may be behind the attack.
Last December 9, three explosions took place in North Upi, where 7 members of the Philippine Marines and a police officer were wounded.
The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters claimed responsibility for the attack.
