NAIA baggage loader nabbed for bomb joke

MANILA — An airport baggage loader assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 was arrested Thursday evening for allegedly making a bomb joke.

Authorities identified the suspect as Sandy Gumatin, a 22-year-old personnel of Miascor, a private ground handling company.

Gumatin was undergoing a routine security inspection by the security personnel of a departing commercial aircraft when he allegedly joked that he has explosives with him.

Gumatin was turned over to investigators of the Philippine National Police—Aviation Security Group. He is facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1727.

Airport general manager Ed Monreal warned airport personnel and the public that making bomb threats is considered a serious offense.
