President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said a "trust fund" amounting to "billions" of pesos will be arranged in the next three to four years for cops killed in line of duty.
"I assure you now that I will leave a legislation that will put in trust so many billions... I hope it will be institutionalized so that in 3 to 4 years it will be in place," Duterte said during the graduation ceremony of the Philippine National Police Academy.
Under Duterte's proposed fund for slain police, the government will shoulder the tuition of the deceased cop's children while the spouse will be offered a job in government.
"Fight for your country, do it right. Kung napasubo kayo sa inyong performance of duty, ako ang may sagot niyan," the Duterte said.
The President took a swipe at promiscuous cops and said that they may have a hard time availing of the proposed benefit.
"Yang mga tao diyan na nagpapatrol, tatambay sa mga cabaret... Kayo patrol ng patrol, puro babae ang pinapatrol, ayan magkakaproblema tayo," Duterte said.
The proposed trust fund is Duterte's latest move to increase the benefits of uniformed personnel.
Duterte's administration has promised at least four programmed salary increases for the police and the military within 2017.
