MANILA - The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has warned against the entry of outlaw motorcycle gangs from overseas involved in gunrunning, illegal drugs and other illicit activities.
The PNP-HPG has urged motorcycle clubs in the Philippines to be wary of accepting members, especially those who they do not fully know.
PNP-HPG Director Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal said the Australian Federal Police has alerted local police about the entry of 22 members of outlaw motorcycle gangs from Australia.
“Ni-report nila sa amin na mayroon na nga nakapag-establish dito 'yung Hell’s Angels at Bandidos,” said Escobal, who recently attended an international conference on outlaw motorcycle gangs held in Indonesia.
According to online reports, Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club is “considered to be an organized crime syndicate by the United States Department of Justice.”
The Australian Federal Police told the PNP that the outlaw motorcycle gangs are known for gunrunning activities, extortion, and transporting illegal drugs, Escobal said.
“Magpu-put-up sila ng motorcycle clubs. Alam naman natin ang origin ng Hell's Angels is from the USA. Ngayon ang sabi nila as per their report, hindi na ito merely established lang na motorcycle clubs but parang business. Mayroon silang involvement sa illegal activities like gun running, extortion and protection racket pati drugs and other illegal activities,” he said.
“Sabi ng Australian Police, napaka-serious na problema ito sa kanila sapagkat itong mga nationals nila pumupunta all over the world to establish mga motorcycle clubs na mga outlaw. Hell's Angels and Bandidos," the official said.
Escobal said it is possible that members of the gangs may have Filipina girlfriends and wives, especially those who have stayed in the country for a long time.
He said the Bureau of Immigration has been tapped to help prevent the entry of members of outlaw motorcycle gangs into the country. The PNP-HPG is currently conducting an investigation.
He said PNP's intelligence unit has not monitored any activity of the supposed outlaw motorcycle gangs "except for gunfights" supposedly over territories.
