President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he is bound for hell, but added that somebody else is going there with him.
Speaking to the Filipino community in Thailand during the second day of his two-day visit, Duterte took the opportunity to throw shade at his vocal critic, Senator Leila de Lima.
According to the president, he will wait for De Lima in hell and will tell Satan that she is the rightful queen in the abyss.
"Siyempre sa edad, mauna ako [mamatay] . . . sigurado ako wala naman ako ambisyon, impyerno talaga. Pero pagdating niya (De Lima), [sasabihin ko,] Senyor Satanas, dumating na ang reynang inaantay mo," he said.
(I am older, so I will die first. I do not have any ambition, it's hell for sure. Once De Lima arrives, I will tell Mr. Satan, here is the queen you have been waiting for.)
De Lima, widely known as Duterte's fiercest critic on alleged extrajudicial killings and other human rights violations, is detained at the PNP Custodial Center on drug-related charges.
De Lima's camp claimed that the charges filed against her were only made up by the administration to silence her.
Duterte mocked De Lima, calling the senator thick-faced.
"Alam mo, hinahanap ko talaga. Wala akong nakita sa Pilipinas, hinahanap ko yung babae na napakakapal ang mukha, siya lang," he said.
(You know, I am actually looking. I cannot find anyone here in the Philippines. I am looking for a lady with a very thick face.)
"Alam mo, lapitan mo iyan, laslasan mo ng blade, hindi tatalab. Buhusan mo ng asido yung mukha, ganoon lang iyan. Balewala," Duterte added.
(Approach her and cut her face with a blade, it won't work. Pour acid on her face, it still won't work. Nothing would work.)
