MANILA — The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday authorized the use of its 3 shuttle buses to ferry health workers in Metro Manila as public transport remain suspended due to the "enhanced community quarantine" effective in Luzon until April 13.
"In response to the Enhance Community Quarantine currently in effect due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19), Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta has authorized the use of Supreme Court shuttle buses to provide transport services to health workers in the National Capital Region," the SC said in a statement.
President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon as the government sought to contain the rapidly spreading COVID-19 that has claimed at least 17 lives in the country.
The judiciary has been operating with minimal workforce following the implementation of the month-long Luzon lockdown.
The designated SC shuttle buses are now temporarily under the supervision and control of the Land Transportation Office.
