The Lanao del Sur government has issued an executive order placing the province under enhanced community quarantine to stem the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

To limit the movement of people, only those involved in transporting basic supplies and other essential services will be allowed to travel, said Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra.

A 54-year-old man from Lanao del Sur died on Tuesday after catching the disease -- the first coronavirus fatality recorded outside Metro Manila.

The province is currently observing 750 persons under monitoring (PUMs) and 9 patients under investigation (PUIs), including board member Abdulrashid Balindong.

The Bangsamoro Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 is also locating some 200 people who reportedly attended a gathering of Islamic preachers in Malaysia.

As of Thursday, the Philippines has recorded 217 coronavirus infections, with 17 fatalities and 8 recoveries.
