MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law extending the franchise of the Philippine Broadcasting Corporation for another 25 years, according to a copy of the measure released by his office on Tuesday.
Duterte signed the renewal, Republic Act 11240, on March 8.
The franchise is extended for another 25 years “unless sooner revoked or cancelled.” It shall be deemed revoked in the event PBC fails to operate continuously for two years.
According to the law, PBC shall secure from the National Telecommunications Commission the appropriate permits and licenses for the construction and operation of its stations or facilities and shall not use any frequency in the radio or television spectrum without authorization from the NTC.
The NTC shall not unreasonably withhold or delay the grant of any such authority, the law read.
