MANILA - Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri said he is slowly getting used to his condition after he tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Zubiri said he has been in isolation for a week.

"Mag-isa lang po ako, I'm all alone.

He also said the hardest part about his condition is the fact that he cannot spend time with his wife and children.

"Nakakalungkot talaga. 'Yung pinakamaliit kong anak, 'yung 5 years old, tumakbo dito sa pintuan, sumisigaw silang ganyan," Zubiri said.

Zubiri said he still considers himself lucky since he only has mild symptoms.

When asked about what food and medicines he was advised to take, Zubiri said he eats whatever is given to him, and he supplements it with a lot of multivitamins and food supplements given to him by friends.

Zubiri, likewise, apologized to the public for getting "special treatment," saying he and some friends have already raised P10 million to buy COVID-19 test kits which they will donate to hospitals in the metro.

I'm very, very sorry for that. 'Yan po ang pagbawi namin," he said.

Zubiri said he will get tested again in a week to make sure that he has recovered.

The senator earlier placed himself under voluntary isolation after a resource person who attended a hearing in the Senate tested positive for COVID-19.

Senators Nancy Binay and Sherwin Gatchalian, who both attended the said hearing, earlier tested negative for the virus.

Several senators have also placed themselves on self-quarantine, and have been scheduled for swabbing.
