MANILA (UPDATED) -- Tropical Depression Chedeng has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), threatening to bring rains over large swaths of Mindanao, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
Chedeng was spotted 830 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and 60 kph gusts, PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. weather bulletin.
The storm may make landfall over the eastern coast of Davao Oriental between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, PAGASA said.
Signal No. 1 was raised in Davao Oriental.
Chedeng may bring moderate to heavy rains over Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and Davao del Norte on Monday, and in most parts of Mindanao on Tuesday, the weather agency added.
