Malacañang on Friday said Vice President Leni Robredo is being used by the people behind the alleged destabilization plot against President Rodrigo Duterte.
"While the President previously ruled out the vice president's involvement in any destabilization attempt... she may have played into the hands of those who wish to use her as a political animal," Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said.
The Palace's statement came after House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez tagged Robredo as being involved in the impeachment bid filed against Duterte. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also claimed that other allies of the Liberal Party instigated "coordinated" attacks against the president.
"The release of her (Robredo's) UN video message lambasting the administration's war on drugs before an international audience and the filing of an impeachment complaint at the House of Representatives which happened on the same day, seems too neat to be written off as mere coincidence," Abella said.
Robredo is in "a pathetic state of affairs," regardless of her intention in releasing a video criticizing the president's intensified campaign against illegal drugs, Abella said.
