MANILA - Police have tagged a man arrested in Davao City for killing a farmer in January in the gruesome killing of a 16-year-old girl in Cebu City.

Authorities nabbed Jonas Bueno through an arrest warrant for another murder case and is now "considered a suspect" in the killing of teen Christine Lee Silawan, said Philippine National Police spokesperson Police Col. Bernard Banac.

(The man named Jonas Bueno who was arrested in Davao because of his alleged involvement in the killing of a farmer in Danao City, Cebu on Jan. 13, 2019.... he is now being considered a suspect in the slay of a teenager in Lapu-Lapu City because of similarities in how they were both killed.)

Silawan was found dead in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Monday with her face skinned to the skull and some organs removed. She was naked from waist down.

Banac said the victim in the Danao case was also killed in a "gruesome" manner and that the face was also mutilated.

(His face was not skinned but it was also mutilated, the way the farmer was killed was also gruesome that's why we can link that there's a possibility that he's one of the suspects.)

Banac said Bueno was originally from Danao City but had moved to Davao to look for a job some two weeks ago.

Silawan was reported missing on Sunday after she failed to return home from serving as collector in church.

The National Bureau of Investigation has been tasked to “conduct an investigation and case build-up” on the teen's murder.

The murder has revived the debate on the reimposition of the death penalty.
