MANILA--As other cities in Metro Manila impose curfews, the local government of Quezon City said on Sunday that it will also impose "public safety hours" starting Monday.

Mayor Joy Belmonte said that from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. all persons in Quezon City are prohibited from loitering in all public places.

The order, however, exempts residents who are going to work or returning home from work.

Also exempted are those in immediate need of medical attention or emergency medicines, and health workers who are on duty.

"Government officials and employees performing essential or emergency official functions and those attending and experiencing emergency situations that require immediate action to prevent serious bodily injury or loss of life are also exempted," Belmonte added.

Drivers and conductors of public utility vehicles are also not covered by the order.

Residents directly proceeding to or returning from the airport or pier will have to show their tickets.
