CAUAYAN CITY - Passengers who traveled to Isabela on Saturday experienced delays as they were subjected to temperature checks to help ensure that persons with COVID-19 symptoms will not enter the northern Luzon province.

The thermal checks were done in round-the-clock checkpoints, manned by police and health workers.

While there are no COVID-19 patients in Isabela, the provincial government has been taking extra precautions to ensure that the province will remain coronavirus-free.

Since March 14, classes in all levels in public and private schools in Isabela have been suspended indefinitely.

The Philippines is currently under a state of public health emergency with 111 COVID-19 patients. Eight have died, 2 recovered, while the rest are confined in hospital across the country.

The World Health Organization declared the virus from Wuhan, China as a global pandemic with over 5,000 deaths and 140,000 infections worldwide.
