(UPDATE) Strict measures were implemented on Sunday for people and motorists crossing the border of Cainta town in Rizal province and Marikina City, which is part of Metro Manila, as the month-long community quarantine for the entire capital region began in a bid to curb the further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Photos taken from 7 a.m., show police and health workers checking temperature of individuals at the border point.

The quarantine of Metro Manila will see the deployment of state troops at border points “to enforce quarantine procedures,” as government seeks to restrict public interactions within the region of 12.8 million people, where most of the country’s cases of COVID-19 have been recorded.

In the “stringent social distancing guidelines” Malacañang released Saturday, government said the movement of people “shall be limited to accessing basic necessities and work," while "uniformed personnel and quarantine officers shall be present at border points.
