(UPDATE) Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez on Saturday said that, for the first time, a person from his province tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He is now under the care of authorities after the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine confirmed test results.

The patient labeled SR1 was neither being monitored nor investigated, and just volunteered to be tested after experiencing colds.

The Santa Rosa city government and the provincial government of Laguna are working together to do contract tracing and validation.

"Ganunpaman, gusto ko pong siguraduhin sa bawat isa na ginagampanan po natin ang mga tamang panuntunan sa ganitong sitwasyon," Hernandez said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Santa Rosa Mayor Arlene Arcillas told radio DZMM her office has yet to verify if the patient is part of the 111 cases announced by the Department of Health Saturday.
