MANILA (2nd UPDATE) - A House of Representatives employee who tested positive for COVID-19 has died, the chamber's secretary general said Sunday.
Earlier reports citing House secretary general Jose Luis Montales said the employee worked at the chamber's printing service department.
The employee was the 8th fatality among 111 cases of COVID-19 in the country, PBA Party List Rep. Jericho Nograles told ANC.
"At this point, let's take a moment and pray for his soul and his family," Nograles said in a separate statement.
"Let's be mindful of any symptoms and do our part on the community quarantine guidelines," Nograles added, as he asked the House secretary general to promptly conduct contact tracing.
The Philippines is currently under a state of public health emergency, with Metro Manila placed under community quarantine from Sunday until April 14.
Several lawmakers earlier decided to undergo home quarantine after attending official functions where there were people who later tested positive for COVID-19.
The virus outbreak, which began in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has killed some 6,000 people and infected 150,000 others worldwide.
